Job Summary:

The University of Wisconsin-Madison seeks to hire a tenure-track faculty member with research and teaching interests in comparative politics, international relations, and/or a substantive public policy area. Candidates must have a combined interest in politics and policy in China.

Candidates for this position - Assistant Professor, Chinese Politics and Policy - should show a clear commitment to contributing to the intellectual life of the Department of Political Science and the La Follette School of Public Affairs.

This position is part of a 3-person cluster to enhance cross-disciplinary expertise on contemporary East Asia.

Expertise in domestic Chinese politics or the international relations of China is a requirement for the Political Science Department portion of the position. For instance, a candidate must be prepared to teach classes on issues relating to domestic Chinese politics or dealing with Chinese international relations.

Expertise in a substantive public policy area, and drawing on China, is a requirement for the La Follette School portion of the position. For instance, a candidate must be prepared to offer a public policy class on topics such as foreign policy/international security issues (especially US-China relations), technology policy (including AI), cyber issues (including cybersecurity), environmental policy, or trade and economic development policy (including political economy).

Education:

Required
PhD

Must have a Ph.D. in Political Science/Public Policy (or a related field) with specialization in the politics and policy of China by the start date of the position.

Candidates should demonstrate evidence of creativity and excellence in teaching and scholarly research. In addition, the successful candidate will demonstrate experience with fostering or the ability to foster an inclusive and equity-centered teaching, learning, departmental, and research environment where all can thrive.
