Responsibilities

The person hired will teach two courses per semester for both Fall and Spring in an academic year. Courses to be taught are Homeland Security Policy and Practice, as well as a redeveloped course on disaster impacts on communities, both domestically and internationally. The new faculty member will be encouraged to develop or redevelop courses focused on policy and public administration related to national security, domestic security, and disaster response. Also, the successful candidate will be a core member of the school faculty engaged in research and collaboration, teaching in the MPA and PhD in Public Administration programs, and mentoring doctoral students.

Qualifications

  • A PhD in public administration, public policy, or another related field, by the time of appointment is required.
  • An ideal candidate will have academic and operational experience in homeland security, emergency management, and/or intelligence.

The Askew School of Public Administration and Policy is a core academic unit of the College of Social Sciences and Public Policy at Florida State University. Located in Florida's capital city, the Askew School has repeatedly been recognized as one of the best MPA programs in the U.S. and as one of the top ten faculties internationally as measured by the number of refereed articles published in the journals of our field. Our affiliated centers include: The Center for Disaster Risk Policy, which does extensive consulting, training, and support in emergency management for domestic and international organizations; and the Florida Center for Public Management, which offers the nation's largest Certified Public Manager program state-wide with full-time trainers. The Askew School has also established a Sustainability and Governance Lab to foster research collaboration among faculty, students, and community leaders working on sustainability.
